On November 12th

Asus plans to introduce two versions of its inexpensive Eee PC on the 12th and, despite the fact that this product is quite attractive, the company has picked a very challenging launch date. The launch comes on the same day that Intel’s Yorkfield QX9650 goes on sale, and also on the first work day after the U.K. iPhone premiere.

The all new Eee PC comes in two flavors and two Pearl White and Galaxy Black colors. It comes with Linux but it is Windows XP compatible. The lowest priced version is branded as Eee PC 2G Surf and it will sell for £199 inc VAT (€286 or $413). It will weigh an incredible 0.92kg and feature a four cell 4400mAh battery that should be enough for 2.8 hours of use. It ships with pre-installed Linux, seven-inch display, 256MB of memory, 2GB solid state drive and microphone with stereo speaker.

The other, much more attractive version will cost only £20 more or £219 including VAT (€315, US$454) and will weigh the same, but it comes with a 4 cell 5200 mAh battery and 3.5 hours claimed battery life.

This version will be known as Eee PC 4G, it also has pre-installed Linux and is Windows XP compatible, but in its stronger iteration the Eee comes with 512MB DDR2 memory and a larger 4GB Solid state drive. It has an Intel CPU as well as Wireless LAN and LAN and has several USBs.

This might be one of the hottest things to buy this holiday season.  We can recommend the 4G, as for only £20 you get a significantly better PC.
