Cray goes Linux
XT5 on parallel lines
Supercomputer manufacturer, Cray, has released its new XT5 family of supercomputers, based around Linux. According to a company press release Cray claims that the XT5 is the "the world's most scalable Linux-based supercomputer."
It is a massively parallel processor system, which increases local memory capacity four-fold, doubles processor density and improves energy efficiency. Other than a lot of paradigms and marketing jargon there is little detail in this press release. Unfortunately, since supercomputers are rarely reviewed in the tech press we will never really know the details.
