Two models and two lid designs

Alienware has finally revealed its Area-51 m15x and m17x notebooks, and Engadget.com has managed to score some pictures of them. We are talking about two desktop replacement notebooks, so don't expect them to be so mobile.

Both models will feature Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme processors, and recently launched Nvidia Geforce 8800M GTX graphics. The 17-inch one branded m17x might even get an SLI 8800M GTX configuration. Both models will also feature up to 4GB of 667MHz DDR2 memory, HD audio, Firewire 800, a number of USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit LAN, Wi-Fi and much more. The bigger one will get up to three hard drives configuration while the smaller one m15x will have to satisfy with "only" two of these, due to its smaller but still well equipped case.

Finally, Alienware is going to offer various lid designs, or more precisely two of them. Future customers will be able to choose between the so-called Skullcap and Ripley designs. As we said, these systems are going to be desktop replacement notebooks so decent battery life is very questionable, and we don't even want to start talking about the price, which will be sky high.

These two "little" glowing things will be available in Q1 of 2008. Until then, you can check out the Alienware preview page here and Engadget.com's launch event gallery can be found here.
