Online retailers boom

U.S. shoppers
who usually spend large amounts of money at retail stores today might have already blown their credit cards online yesterday.

'Black Friday,' or the day after Thanksgiving, is usually a day where retail stores make huge sales. However, according to Reuters, yesterday was unusual because online retailers were hit with huge amounts of orders, practically while the turkey was being carved.

High Street retailers, who were worried that sales might be down this year because of economic gloom, posted special deals on their online sites. Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Circuit City Stores all offered special deals and were rewarded with a large number of online sales.

For example, Wal-Mart offered a Magnavox 47-inch flat-screen television for US$1,298, while Circuit City offered a Sony Blu-ray disc player for $399.99.
