Chooses to launch ahead of Microsoft Kinect

Sony has decided that they will launch their new motion control device, known as Move, ahead of Microsoft’s new Kinect. Sony has opted to launch Move in Europe on September 15th, North America on September 19th, and Japan on October 21st.

Unlike Microsoft’s Kinect, Sony was not afraid to explain their pricing for Move. We say ‘explain’ because there are a couple of options. The Move controller itself will retail for $49.99. The navigation controller attachment will set you back an additional $29.99.

Now, the best deal going is the Move bundle, which includes the Move controller, navigation controller, PlayStation Eye camera, and a copy of Sports Champions, which will set you back $99.99. A PlayStation 3 Move bundle that will include everything in the regular Move bundle will be $399.99 and reportedly contain a 500GB hard drive, but we have been unable to confirm this. Sony has yet to announce the size of the hard drive in the Move PlayStation 3 bundle.

Sony has not said how many titles will be available at the launch of Move, but we suspect that some of the same titles that we saw from third party publishers on Kinect will make their way to the PlayStation 3, as well.

The $99.99 price of the Move bundle puts additional pressure on Microsoft. While Kinect is a different kind of product, the rumors of a $149 price tag (that are being backed up by multiple retailers who are now accepting pre-orders at this price) puts Microsoft in a bit of a scramble to try to find a way to either add a lot of value or bring the price down prior to launch of Kinect.
