John Donahoe will be the successor

Breaking news from Whitman's blog confirms that Meg Whitman, CEO of eBay, will step aside to make room for new leader, John Donahoe, who hails from eBay’s Marketplaces division. Whitman made the announcement on her company blog today. She does indicate that she will stay on at eBay as a part of the Board of Directors.

Whitman has been leading eBay for almost a decade, and the news that she has decided to make way for a new leadership team to move the company forward isn’t as much of a surprise as one might think.

Rumors and gossip in technology circles had been suggesting for some time that she wanted to hand over the reigns of the company to someone else and move toward a Board advisory role. Most of these rumors and gossip seemed unlikely until the announcement today.
