No reason to lower prices

Now that Sony
has won the format war, it seems that it is no longer in any hurry to get the price of the players down.

While HD-DVD players were extremely cheap, Sony refused to lower the price of its Blu-ray players in a bid to compete. However, there are indications that it no longer has any intention of dropping the prices of its newer generation of players, and will instead offer more functionality.

In fact, Richard Doherty, Research Director of Envisioneering Group, said that if you want to get a cheaper Blu-ray player now was the time to buy, as he thinks that they are at as low a price as Sony will allow them to get for a while.

He expects the prices to go up in the summer, as Sony realzses it does not have competition in that market any longer.
