Intel and Asus expect double-digit growth annually
Intel and Asustek, the duo behind the overhyped low-cost Eee PC, are hoping that the latest craze for cheap nettop and laptop machines will help them rake in tons of cash.
The Santa Clara outfit is expecting sales in excess of 100 million units by 2011, optimistic to say the least. Asus is not far behind as far as optimism goes, with President Jerry Shen hoping to ship 10 million units this year, followed by 20 million in 2009. This is an entirely new market niche, so double digit growth shouldn't be a problem, as there is pretty much nothing to grow from in the first place.
Intel expects double-digit growth of low-cost notebook and nettop sales in 2008-2011. Oddly, according to their forecast, the market will gobble up more nettops, 60 million, than low-cost notebooks, 47 million.
