Now waterproof to 4m

Pentax has just announced its latest waterproof digital camera, the Optio W60. Just about every single feature of the camera has been upgraded from the W30, and considering that this range has only had a megapixel increase over the last few models, it's good to see that Pentax has done something new.

For starters, the W60 is waterproof down to 4m, which is 1m deeper than the W30. The sensor has been upgraded to 10Megapixels from the previous seven and the W60 features a non protruding 5x optical zoom lens equivalent to 28mm to 140mm. This makes the W60 the first wide-angle Optio W camera and also the first one with more than 3x zoom.

Other new features includes a 720p video mode, although no frame rate was mentioned, and the video format is still motion JPEG, a 2.5-inch IPS TFT display with twice the resolution of older Optio W models and an extended operating mode down to -10 degrees C.

The camera body has been given an overhaul as well, and the new design looks a bit more rugged than previous models. The Optio W60 will be available in silver or blue once it starts shiping in July for US$329.95.
