Ouya to fix things before June 4th arrival

by on09 April 2013

Laundry list of things to address in pipeline

The first Ouya units are already headed out to Kickstarter backers, as we told you previously. (In case you are wondering, we have yet to receive our unit) Those that have been lucky enough to be among the first to sample the new Ouya seem to suggest that the unit is (to put it mildly) a little rough around the edges yet.

Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman seems to be aware of some of this talk, and she has stressed that they will continue to enhance and apply learned feedback to make the Ouya better. Prior to the June 4th official release of the Ouya, they intend to work on making the external storage for games easier to use, address the installation issues, add controller support for the video players, more metrics for developers, and the support of different payment methods. These are expected in the next rounds of firmware updates.

Only time will tell how the Ouya will evolve, but it does need time. To us, this is what is exciting about the Ouya platform: it will continue to grow and evolve over time. We know it will get better and we know that there were going to be some bumps in the road, because it was quite a big undertaking to produce the Ouya. We will have to reserve our final judgment till our unit arrives, but it sounds like Ouya is listening and putting the resources where they are necessary to address the rough edges.
