Sony has indicated that pre-orders for the PlayStation 4 are far ahead of the pre-order numbers for both the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, prior to release. While Sony would not disclose the number of PlayStation 4 units that have been pre-ordered, they did indicate that they do expect a sell out on launch day.

Sony has also confirmed that the PlayStation 4 was always scheduled to launch in November and rumors of an October release were made up. Sony also tried to squash the rumors that they are trying to create an artificial shortage of the PS4. The demand for the unit is high and they are doing their best to make sure that they have product on retailer shelves, but they have yet to confirm if retailers can expect more units to arrive before Christmas.
