Spotify streams free on tablets, phones

After some ads and shuffle

Spotify has been around for a while and the company is obviously ready to transform and embrace some new market models. Considering that most people on the move really like to listen music on the go, and considering that Black Friday shopping was dominated by tablets like never before, Spotify is now available on tablets and phones, for free.

The tablet version is ad supported and you will have to listen trough some ads and the same business model works on smart phones, or computers. At first you get 48 hours of premium account, that can extend to a 30-day free trial in exchange for you details, and after that its $9.99, £9.99 or €9.99 depending on your location.

One part of the free ad supported catch is that you will be able to play your favourite artist on shuffle for free and in order to play the exact song you want you will have to pay. You can create your perfect playlist and again you can only shuffle play it. Shuffle play stays free, it is not a trial but if you want to play a certain song, you will have to reach into your wallet, at the end there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Premium users can download songs on their devices and won't have to burn their data plan. Spotify is also available in a few audio receivers including Onkyo’s latest line that lets you stream music with a premium account without a PC, phone or tablet, getting this technology to the living room. This has been out for a while, but it got Spotify closer to the living room entertainment market. We would like to see an ad supported version for these devices, as it would definitely make a difference.
