Samsung new Portable SSD T3 external drive now available

by on23 February 2016

In both Europe and the US

Although it was announced back at CES 2016 show in January, Samsung's new Portable SSD T3, which comes with a new USB Type-C interface and capacities of up to 2TB, is now available in both the US and Europe.

As you can remember, the original Samsung Portable SSD T1 was only available in capacities of up to 1TB, but thanks to the new 48-layer 3D V-NAND flash technology, the new Samsung Portable SSD T3 external drive peaks at 2TB. Of course, standard 250GB, 500GB and 1TB versions are also available. In addition to higher capacity, Samsung has equipped the new Portable SSD T3 with a new USB 3.1 Type-C interface.

The Samsung Portable SSD T3 has 74x58x10.5mm dimensions and weighs 51g. While it weighs slightly more compared to the previous Portable SSD T1, Samsung is now using a metal enclosure which should make it a bit more sturdy. The transfer speed remained pretty much the same as it peaks at up to 450MB/s. It also comes with AES-256-bit hardware encryption and an optional password settings for security.

The Samsung Portable SSD T3 is backed by a 3-year warranty and, according to Samsung, should be available in the United States, China, Korea and select European countries. The price in the US is set at US $129.99 for the 250GB version, US $219.99 for the 500 GB, US $429.99 for the 1TB and US $849.99 for the flagship 2 TB version.

In most of Europe, the situation is pretty much the same just in European favorite currency, and we found the Portable SSD T3 listed for €139 for the 250GB version, €229 for the 500GB version, €429 for the 1TB version and €849 for the 2TB one.
