A report suggests that Google is so alarmed by Alexa's dominance on the home intelligence assistant front that it is pouring vast amounts of energy to play catch up with Amazon.

That includes spreading its geographic range to seven more countries this year – Echo speakers are available in 30 plus countries right now, according to a report by analysts at Digitimes Research.

But while Google is lagging behind in market share worldwide, it does have one edge and that's in the sphere of language recognition.

Alexa only supports three languages right now while Google wants to support as many as 20 languages by the end of this year.

The analysts also believe that Google is using its currently strong position with hardware manufacturers to erode Amazon's current dominance of the smart assistant market.
