Sources tell us that it’s as dead as dead can be

Since we talked about Microsoft’s closing of the Aces Studio that was responsible for Flight and Train Simulator among other things, we have had several sources emerge from the shadows to give us a bit more insight on the likely future for these products, and according to them they are as dead as dead can be.

While the Train Simulator 2 product was more than 80 percent complete, it was completely and quietly shelved in the fourth quarter of 2008. The studio was also working on the ESP project, which was a virtual simulation platform that has tools to allow people to build in-house simulations. Also, the studio was also working on the next version of the Flight Simulator franchise.

According to our sources it is unlikely that you will ever see anything developed by Microsoft like these Aces studio developed products again. According to reports, however, it is thought that Flight Simulator X (with the variety of add-ons available for it and those that the community continues to develop) has a lot of life left in them.
