Top motherboard makers face declining revenue
Gigabyte still made a profit
Top motherboard makers Asustek, Pegatron, Gigabyte, ECS and MSI have suffered a major decline in revenue in January, due to low demand and high inventory levels.
Digitimes is reporting year-on-year revenue drops ranging from 31 percent for Gigabyte to to 42 percent for ECS. Sequentially, revenues dropped between 4.6 percent for MSI and a whopping 42 percent for ECS. The only good news in all of this is that Gigabyte's profit was up over 77 percent after some end of year sales being delayed into January.
Analysts expect first-tier motherboard makers' revenues to increase slightly over the next few months, but they will still remain well under 2008 levels.
