Microsoft invests in Chinese TV company

Microsoft has invested in a Chinese television maker in a bid to to play a role in the integration of digital media in China.

Sichuan Changhong announced that Microsoft $12 million in return for a  token stake of about one percent.

It is the first time Microsoft has made an equity investment in a hardware manufacturer in CHina. Sichuan Changhong, one of the largest television manufacturers in China, is attempting to make an integrated digital media platform.

Sichuan Changhong confirmed that it will be working with Microsoft to develop a joint project called Media Galaxy, aimed at linking flat-panel
televisions to home computers and the Internet.
