Could be launched late 2009

Former US vice president and Nobel Prize laureate has backed efforts to launch a new internet domain for environmentalist sites.

The proposed .eco domain is the brainchild of Dot Eco LLC Partners, and has received an endorsement by Al Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection (ACP).

"This is a truly exciting opportunity for the environmental movement and for the internet as a whole," said Gore.

Dot Eco is getting a lot of support for its plans, and is expected to apply for the .eco domain alter this year. All profits generated by administrating the domain are to be given to environmental charities.
