€899 for the top range dual-core SKU

A lot
has been said about MSI's stylish X-Slim notebooks recently, and these MacBook Air lookalikes became the media's darling at this year's Cebit show in Hannover. We managed to find several listings of the new ultraportables on the German market, as well as some detailed specs.

So far only the flagship SKU has been listed and, as previously reported, it's ended up priced at €899. This version is powered by a Core 2 Duo SU3500 CPU at 1.40GHz and Intel X4500HD graphics. It packs 2GB of memory and 320GB of storage. Apart from 2 USBs, memory card reader and LAN, it also features draft-n wireless, Bluetooth and an HDMI port. It ships with a 4-cell battery, measures 260x180x6-19 mm and weighs 1.4kg. MSI will also offer an 8-cell battery, which, according to the company, should double battery life to 8 hours.

Looking at the competition, Lenovo's entry level X300 SKU costs €1150, but it does feature an optical drive, 64GB SSD and a higher res screen. The cheapest Apple MacBook Air costs just over €1300, it has a faster CPU, but also a slow, 4200rpm 80GB hard drive and a lower resolution screen.

However, bear in mind that MSI will also offer cheaper SKUs, based on single-core CULV processors, and their prices are expected start at €749. The Atom Z530 based X320 should retail at €699.

Retailers expect to have the X340 in stock sometime in early April. Considering thin 13-inchers are becoming a very popular form factor, MSI's X-Slims could become a rather hot commodity. The company is also planning to launch the X600, a similarly designed 2kg 15.6-inch model, but info on this model is quite sketchy at the moment.
