Never say never

Talking to
Kaufman Bros. analysts, Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer and Tom Boger, senior manager in the Mac division said the company is still not interested in netbooks.

However, Apple also says "never say never" to the idea, although it's denying interest in the short term. Two months ago, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said Cupertino doesn't know how to make a "$500 computer that's not a piece of junk," clearly alluding to netbooks.

Oppenheimer and Boger point out that netbooks are increasingly adding luxuries, and featuring larger panel sizes. Perhaps it's Apple's way of saying what AMD has been saying for months, the dividing line between netbooks and notebooks is becoming increasingly blurred, and could disappear altogether.

Recent rumours, however, point to an Atom based Apple, not a plain netbook, but rather a device similar to the company's iPod Touch.
