AMD announces Ryzen and Athlon 7020 C-series processors

Zen 2 and RDNA 2 for Chromebooks

AMD has announced the new lineup of Ryzen and Athlon 7020 C-series processors aimed at Chromebooks. Based on the 6nm manufacturing process and the last year's Zen 2 CPU and RDNA 2 GPU architectures, these new processors will be coming to new Chromebooks in Q2 2023.

The lineup includes a total of four SKUs, two Ryzen and two Athlon APUs, all sharing the same 15W TDP and AMD Radeon 610M GPU. The two Ryzen SKUs are the AMD Ryzen 5 7520C and the Ryzen 3 7320C, both 4-core/8-thread SKUs with 6MB of cache.

The third SKU is the Athlon Gold 7220C, a 2-core/4-thread SKU with 5MB of cache, and the bottom SKU is the Athlon Silver 7120C, a 2-core/2-thread SKU with 3MB of cache.

According to AMD, the new Chromebooks with Ryzen and Athlon 7202 C-series processors will offer significant performance improvement compared to current Chromebooks and up to 3.5 hours longer battery life. The Athlon Silver 7120C will go for ARM-based Chromebooks, offering 1.8 times higher average performance. The entire platform will also offer modern connectivity with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.

According to AMD, Chromebook systems featuring Ryzen and Athlon 7020 C-Series processors are expected to be available from global OEM partners including ASUS and Dell beginning in Q2 2023.
