Too many people with too much time on their hands

Web analysts Compete have released their stats for May, and it appears Facebook traffic has surged by 8% for a total of 82.9 million unique visitors last month, while Facebook Connect sites generated a further 65 million unique visits. Compete claims some 113 million souls in the U.S. used Facebook services in May.

Myspace seems to be loosing traffic, while Twitter's growth has flattened. Juggernaut Google had some 145 million unique visitors in May, while Yahoo and MSN.com tallied up 135 and 97 million respectively.

If Facebook keeps growing at the same rate, it will leave Yahoo, Google and MSN in a cloud of dust by the end of the year.
