Fewer brands

Intel's CPU
branding has been somewhat chaotic lately, especially following the transition to 45nm and the introduction of Core i7 series CPUs. The chipmaker now wants to simplify its branding, at least in the premium segment.

Under the new branding scheme, most new processors will use the Core brand for three performance levels, starting with Core i3, moving through the upcoming Core i5 series, to the high-end Core i7 CPUs.

Intel will also transform the Centrino brand into a brand reserved for its WiFi and WiMAX wireless product lines. The brand will evolve away from PCs beginning in 2010.

We already talked about the star rating system, which Intel will use in conjunction with new product logos and brands.
