Dismantlers reveal the truth

Apple is making a fortune by charging more than double the book price for the parts which make up its iPhone.

With the machine now being pulled apart it is clear which parts are being used for the new $500 phone.

Companies which have included parts are Intel, Broadcom, Texas Instruments, Infineon Technologies, Skyworks and Linear Technology.

Samsung, which is making the main microprocessor used to run the phone's operating system and various applications. Intel is supplying the NOR flash.

However if you add up all the bits this comes to just $200 in materials.  The 8 gig version costs only $20 more to build but costs an extra $100.
