Console exclusive for the near term

Microsoft has acted quickly and has reached an agreement with Netflix to provide access to the company’s streaming content and services exclusively for the Xbox 360 console.

From what our sources tell us, under the agreement Netflix streaming will only be available for the Xbox 360 console, which leaves both the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 out in the cold. Netflix was said to be seeking developers to work on a new version of the Netflix streaming software to bring it to the Nintendo Wii platform, according to our sources.

While there are still a couple of ways that one might be able to watch Netflix streaming content on a video gaming console, at least for the time being the best and most robust support of Netflix will be on the Xbox 360.

While no terms were announced regarding the deal, the addition of being able to manage your Netflix queue from a selection on the Xbox 360 will certainly attract a lot of attention and use long-term. It looks to be an excellent move for Microsoft in the long run, as the Netflix partnership will provide Xbox 360 owners with a variety of available content that they will be able to stream to their consoles. We think the decision to lock Netflix in appears to be a good one.
