Nice to have a friend

The bloke
who went on a gun rampage through a US army barracks killing 13 people may be spared terrorism charges because of his computer.

Computer experts have been pulling apart Nidal Malik Hasan's computer in the wake of last week's  killing spree and said that there is no evidence of any connection to terror groups or conspirators. While CBS News correspondent Bob Orr claimed that that an examination of the computer has revealed Hasan visited Web sites promoting radical Islamic views, investigators have not found any e-mail communications with outside facilitators or known terrorists.

At the moment the only links to terrorism is that in 2001 Hasan attended the same Virginia mosque as two of the 9/11 hijackers. Which is a bit thin as hundreds of people will have attended the same mosque. Investigators do not yet know if Hasan ever had an encounter with the hijackers Nawaf al-Hamzi and Hani Hanjour, but "... since all were in the area at the same time, it's possible," sources said.

Hasan was shot four times during Thursday's firefight and is in hospital. Still it is hard to see how anyone can be an  terrorist these days and not use their computers as part of the plot. It seems that this is another case of a lone gunman did everything by themselves.  At least this time they do not need a bizarre bouncing bullet theory to work out how people were killed.
