Linksys Brand lives on

Cisco has backtracked on its announcement that it is retiring its Linksys brand.

Last week Cisco Systems President and CEO John Chambers told journalists and analysts at a press briefing in Anaheim that Linksys would be be folded into the overall Cisco brand. He implied that the brand would be gone in a matter of months.

However according to eWeek Cisco has said that it has no plans to kill off the brand name Chambers' clear implication was that the familiar and trusted Linksys brand would simply fade away over the new several months as product stock sold down.

However Charles Giancarlo, president of Cisco/Linksys said that this is not true as Linksys consumer and SMB products will continue to be marketed under the Linksys brand and co-exist in the market with Cisco-branded connected home products over the near term.

He said that Chambers never said that the Linksys brand was going away or that he was killing it.
