At least in Taiwan

The first of the new netbook models that Gigabyte was showing of at CeBIT has now gone in sale, well, at least it has in Gigabyte's home country of Taiwan. The Touch Note T1028M has turned up online for pre-order, but won't ship until the 10-16th of April (that's quite an open shipping date Ed.), which is a little over a week from now.

Out of the new models coming from Gigabyte the Touch Note T1028M has the most in common with the older M912 models, as it features a swivel touch screen, albeit at 10.1-inches rather than 8.9-inches. The screen has a native resolution of 1,024x600. The hardware configuration is pretty standard with a 1.6GHz Atom N270, the 945GSE chipset, 1GB of DDR2 memory and a 160GB hard drive.

The Touch Note T1028M also has an ExpressCard 34 slot, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, a multi-format card reader, a 1.3 Megapixel webcam, three USB 2.0 ports, a D-sub connector, an Ethernet port and a pair of audio jacks. The downside would be the 4-cell battery, although it's quoted as being good for four hours of usage.

At 1.3kg the Touch Note T1028M is slightly heavier than most netbooks, but the swivel screen design is part of the reason behind this. The pre-order price is about €421 (£393/$557) which is also slightly higher than your average netbook.
