The iPad might be the king of the hill when it comes to tablets, but in the Android world, Amazon’s Kindle Fire is the daddy.

According to the latest figures out of Comscore, the Kindle Fire accounts for more than 54 percent of Android tablet sales, up from 41 percent in January. Samsung trails in second, but its entire Glaxy Tab lineup holds just 15.4 percent of the market. Other Android tablets fared even worse.

Strong Kindle Fire sales, backed by content sales, helped Amazon beat Q1 estimates, even at the cost of cannibalizing Kindle ebook readers.

However, it is not all smooth sailing for Amazon. Google is expected to launch a budget 7-inch tablet that should trump the Kinle Fire in terms of specs and Apple is also said to be working on an iPad mini.
