Xiaomi already has a wide product portfolio, from air purifiers and rice cookers to phones and other smart devices, and since its Mi Notebook Air notebooks have put a lot of pressure on the thin and light notebook market, the new Mi Gaming Laptop could do the same as it comes with some rather impressive specifications and reasonable pricing.

Announced alongside the new Mi Mix 2S smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi Gaming Laptop is a 15.6-inch notebook powered by Intel's 7th generation Core i7 or Core i5 CPU, up to 16GB of RAM and either an Nvidia GTX 1060 or GTX 1050 Ti GPU, depending on the SKU. It measures at 364x265.2x20.9mm and weighs 2.7kg.

It comes with a 15.6-inch 1920x1080 resolution anti-glare screen with a narrow frame (9.9mm) and offers 72 percent NTSC color gamut, 300nits of maximum brightness, and 178-degree viewing angles. The screen can be opened to 135 degrees.

The rest of the specifications include dual-band 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, Gigabit Ethernet, 720p web camera with digital array microphone, two 3W speakers, one USB Type-C 3.0 port, two standard USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI 2.0 output. It also features a backlit keyboard with four-zone RGB backlight and glass touchpad with multi-finger gesture control. Xiaomi also talked about a special cooling system with dedicated "turbo cooling" option as well as an ambient light, which uses light bars mounted on the side of the notebook.

It also comes with a 55Wh battery that should keep it alive for about 5.5 hours of video playback or 6.5 hours of web browsing.

Currently, Xiaomi offers a total of four different SKUs, starting with the cheapest one, priced at CNY 5,999 (US $950/€770) equipped with Core i5-7300HQ quad-core CPU, 8GB of DDR4-2400 memory, a Geforce GTX 1050 Ti (4GB) and 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD storage. The second SKU, priced at CNY 6,999 (US $1110/€900), has the same CPU, same 8GB of RAM and storage but adds the GTX 1060 (6GB).

The third SKU comes with the Core i7-7700HQ quad-core CPU with Intel Hyper-Threading, GTX 1060 (6GB), the same 8GB of RAM And 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD storage for CNY 7,999 (US $1270/€1030). The top offer is priced at CNY 8,999 (US $1430/€1160) and comes with the same Core i7-7700HQ CPU and GTX 1060 GPU but adds 16GB of DDR4-2400 memory and 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD storage.

While the price might sound a bit steep, bear in mind that similar "gaming" notebooks from other manufacturers are priced much higher and Xiaomi's Mi Gaming Laptop offers some impressive hardware with a few unique features.
