Codemasters confirms F1 2014 release plans

by on01 August 2014

No release on Xbox One and PS4 till 2015

Codemasters has finally let the cat out of the bag so to speak on their release plans for F1 2014. In a surprising move, the developer announced that F1 2014 would be released on October 14th in North America and October 17th in Europe only on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

The developer announced that it would be skipping release on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for the F1 2014 title. It did confirm that a second F1 title (which we suspect will be called F1 2015) would be released earlier in the year for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. This title will be timed so that it is released closer to the start of the 2015 F1 season and it would be expanded with live digital updates to the title throughout the F1 2015 season. The updates will include things that mirror the changes that the actual teams are going through in the actual season.

The 2014 release included all of the new changes to the sport including the new circuits, car rules, and turbocharged engines that are a part of the season this year. The game also includes refinements to the car handling and new driver evaluation system that tunes the game settings to your skill level to better match the player’s skill in an effort to increase accessibility.

The news isn’t going to make everyone happy. Those that own the new consoles are not going to be pleased with the decision, but the news that they will be moving the release date up for the next year’s edition that will be coming for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are obviously something that has been needed for a long time. Difficult that it might be, it likely is the best decision for the long term. Codemasters did not indicate if this will be the last release for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 or not, but we suspect that at least right now they are not planning F1 2015 for release on these two systems.
