It comes as little surprise to us that THQ has now confirmed what we suspected late last week; Darksiders II will miss its June 26th release date and end up getting pushed back. Given what we told you late last week and the opinions from our sources, the June deadline just didn’t look good.

In a carefully worded posting that was placed on the game’s official website, the decision was made because Vigil wanted additional time to polish and ensure that all aspects of Darksiders II meet the high-quality bar the team is targeting. Our sources tell us this actually translates into making the June release date would result in releasing a title that was not as thoroughly tested and debugged as it could have been, which would have impacted sales; and THQ needs for this game to be successful and sell.

While rumors suggested that the decision was made for a simultaneous launch that would allow the Wii U version to join the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC versions to all be released at the same time, this is total bunk, and the release plans for the Wii U version (as well as the game content and DLC plans for the title) are not changing based on the decision to move the launch date.

While all pre-orders of the game for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC will still automatically get bumped up to the Limited Edition version of the game, the big draw of the Limited Edition version will include a DLC code to download the Argul’s Tomb single-player DLC pack for free as soon as it is released.

No official release date has been announced. It is confirmed that the new release date is targeted for August, and an announcement will be coming soon as to the exact release date that we can expect the game to arrive in August. It is expected that the Wii U version will be released as a launch title for the Wii U console and will not be released in August with the other versions of the game; but we are told that some dealers are already taking pre-orders for the Wii U version of the game. However, we doubt that this will lock you into a Limited Edition version for the Wii U release, according to what we hear from our sources.
