Amazon caught a lot of attention with the news that they were accepting pre-orders for the Wii U; but the news and the price didn’t last long before the company was Emailing customers to tell them that all pre-orders had been canceled.
Amazon claims that the listing of the Wii U was a mistake, and that it was a posting error that should never have happened. Besides apologies and letting everyone know that they would not be charged, they encourage those interested in still buying the unit to sign up to be notified when the Wii U is available for pre-order on Amazon.
Honestly, the news really isn’t that surprising, as Amazon has canceled orders in situations like this before. While some retailers that we have spoken with are accepting pre-orders, it is with the understanding that the price for the unit has yet to be determined and it will cost whatever it costs.
As one retailer told us, “There is a lot of interest in getting in line for the Wii U to make sure that folks can get one for the holiday season, and that is the only reason we are accepting a limited number of pre-orders.” This sounds like shades of the Wii and Microsoft Kinect all over again.
