Gamers shunning high priced GPUs

Long term difficulties for Nvidia

While the GPU maker named after a Roman vengence daemon, Nvidia is dominating the GPU market, there is some bad news for the outfit from the Steam hardware survey.

It appears that gamers are getting less interested in high end chips and while they are buying Nvidia gear they are not interested in its high end offerings. The GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU is the most popular graphics card used by PC gamers who have entered the Steam hardware survey, followed by the GTX 1060, RTX 3050, RTX 3060, and GTX 1660.

IThere are no high-end GPUs until you get to the RTX 3070 Ti laptop GPU at number 14. As for ultra-high-end GPUs, there’s only one in the top 30 – the RTX 3080 Ti – and that just squeezed in at number 29.

This does not bode well for the outfit's cunning plan as Nvidia wants users to spend large for its TX 4000 series of next-generation graphics cards and seems more interested in churning out high end cards..

At the launch of the RTX 4000 series of graphics cards there were three GPUs – two versions of the RTX 4080 and the RTX 4090. While all of these GPUs are powerful and expensive Nvidia forgot to mention the more affordable RTX 4000 GPUs, such at the RTX 4070 or RTX 4060 which are what most gamers are going to want.

All this is good news for AMD which will happily take on more budget-conscious gamers who are feeling spurned by Nvidia.  Hell, even Intel might have a shot at it.
