GPU on CPU stuff

Last week during its financial analyst update, AMD announced that product that we knew as Fusion, a GPU on a CPU, has been pushed to 2011 as it has to wait for the 32nm process. The original Fusion was supposed to launch in 45nm process and we expected it toward early 2010 or late 2009, but it looks that it won't happen.

According to the current roadmap, the original Fusion is actually canceled, as the new roadmap doesn't have 45nm Fusion (APU) parts. Intel was supposed to have Havendale in late 2009, but it seems that Intel's GPU on CPU has also been pushed for Q1 2010.

This again means that Intel will have a manufacturing advantage and that Havendale will strongly attack value and mainstream desktop market while its mobile brother, codenamed Auburndale, will attack the mobile market, all in 45nm.

This is not great news for AMD, but since AMD is reorganizing its roadmap like there is no tomorrow, they obviously realized that Fusion makes more sense in 32nm process, and they simply canceled the 45nm one and moved people to a new project.
