GTS 240 comes later

Nvidia plans to launch a “new” card at CeBIT and despite the slightly higher clock, we are talking about good old G92b chip in disguise.

The new card, branded Geforce GTS 250, is a higher clocked G92b at 55nm and will basically be an overclocked Geforce 9800 GTX+. Geforce GTS 240 will come later.

Nvidia wants this transition to go as smoothly as possible, and it doesn’t want partners to be sending the cards to the press, as the press will probably make a lot of noise about yet another Nvidia rebrand.

The card will simply sell better in retail chains, where non-educated users like to make there upgrades and Nvidia wants to silently get rid of 9x00 branding and completely change it with the new GTx2x0 branding model.

This is just a start and it will be interesting to see the brand for new cards such as GT21x 40nm parts.
