GTS 240 in April might be strategic

Not at Cebit

Geforce GTS 240, a G92b 55nm based chip that is a higher clocked version of the Geforce 9800GT, will come in April and we already wrote about it here. This is what Nvidia has decided and there won’t be any Geforce GTS 240 at Cebit, at least Nvidia won’t be happy if someone shows it.

The Geforce GTS 250 on the other hand, will launch on the first day or Cebit and we still don’t know the price or the real performance of GTS 250 or 240. We are quite sure that GTS 250 should finally be able to beat Radeon 4850 on the performance level, but we are also sure that the GTS 240 will end up slower.

Nvidia might wait for the RV740 to launch before it releases the Geforce GTS 240. The whole point is to get the GTS 240 faster than ATI's RV740. With this in mind, this looks to be a strategic decision rather than a logistical one, and we will keep our eyes opened.

As long as the Geforce GTS 240 outperforms the 40nm based RV740, Nvidia will have a winning hand, but this is yet to be seen.
