40nm graphics yields are not great

As expected

Our sources are telling us that 40nm graphics chip yields are not impressive. ATI is probably fighting with bad yields for RV740 40nm, and this doesn't surprise as, as we lived through with 55nm transition.

This is natural as TSMC needs to learn the ways of 40nm and every week you can expect the 40nm situation to get better and better. Nvidia traditionally lags behind ATI with these transitions to a new process and once Nvidia starts it, TSMC will pick up a few tricks from ATI’s 40nm start.

By the second part of 2009, we expect Nvidia to go 40 nanometre, ATI has more 40nm chips up its sleeve, and this will hopefully bring new generation of cooler but faster graphics cards.
