Roundup: The cheapest DirectX 11 card

Just as we wrote a few days ago, AMD has announced its cheapest DirectX 11 capable graphics card, the HD 5450. This 40nm Cedar based, low profile card should replace the HD 4350 and HD 4550, and put some pressure on Nvidia's Geforce 210 cards.

The new HD 5450 has 80 Stream processors, 8 Texture units, 4 ROPs and it works at 650MHz for the core and either 800MHz or 1600MHz depending on the memory configuration. The HD 5450 will be available with either 512MB or 1GB of either DDR3 or DDR2 memory paired up with a 64-bit memory interface.

As mentioned, it is based on 40nm Cedar core with 292M transistors and has a rated TDP of 19.1W. As we wrote before, the reference AMD card was cooled by a small fan, which as far as we can see, was replaced by a small dual or single-slot heatsink by almost every partner. The HD 5450 has support for Directx 11 and ATI's Eyefinity, and comes with D-Sub, DVI and HDMI outputs.

The card has a suggested price tag ranging from US $49 to $59 depending on the SKU.

Most reviews that went up agree that although this card can successfully replace the, now quite old, HD 4550/4350, the higher price tag is still a problem. It outperforms the Geforce 210 and brings DirectX 11 and Eyefinity support to the masses, and can be easily considered the new HTPC king. You can find a bunch of reviews below and ours will be posted soon.
