Nvidia officially announces Geforce RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti

by on01 June 2021

Coming on June 3rd at $1,199 and June 10th at $599

Nvidia has officially announced the new GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti graphics cards that will be available on June 3rd at $1,199 and June 10th at $599.

As expected, both of these new Geforce RTX cards are powered by Nvidia Ampere architecture, and, as Nvidia describes it, the Geforce RTX 3080 Ti is the new flagship, building upon the RTX 3080 and bringing 20 percent more memory bandwidth and an 18 percent increase in CUDA core count, while the Geforce RTX 3070 Ti is a successor of what Nvidia calls "the most popular Ampere", bringing 256 more CUDA cores, faster memory, and a $100 price bump.

Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 Ti is the new flagship

As announced by Nvidia, the Geforce RTX 3080 Ti is the new flagship, and as expected, the new one is based on the GA102-225 GPU with 80 GPCs, packing 10240 CUDA cores, 320 Tensor cores, and 80 RT cores. The card is similar to the Geforce RTX 3090, and features the same 384-bit memory interface with 12GB of GDDR6X slightly slower 19Gbps memory, leaving it with 912GB/s of memory bandwidth.

The GPU ticks at 1365MHz base and 1665MHz GPU Boost clocks and it has a 350W TDP. In its own benchmarks, Nvidia compared the RTX 3080 Ti to the RTX 2080 Ti, showing a significant increase in performance all across the board, in rasterizing, raytracing as well as rendering performance.

Nvidia was also keen to show off some gaming performance, with the DOOM Eternal game, running with Raytracing on the RTX 3080 Ti.

The overall performance of the RTX 3080 Ti should be similar to the RTX 3090, with a minimal gap and we expect a similar result compared to the RTX 3080 non-Ti, expecting somewhere at just over 10 percent.

The Geforce RTX 3070 Ti is a very interesting card at $599

The Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti is definitely an impressive card and might be the most popular of the bunch.

Based on the 8nm GA104-400 GPU with 48 GPCs, the Geforce RTX 3070 Ti features 6144 CUDA cores, 192 Tensor cores, and 48 RT cores. Just like the RTX 3080, it has 96 ROPs.

Compared to the RTX 3070, you get 256 CUDA cores more, but it still comes with 8GB of VRAM. Although still sticking to 8GB, the RTX 3070 Ti gets faster 19Gbps GDDR6X memory, which pushes the memory bandwidth up to 608GB/s (from 448GB/s on the RTX 3070).

The GPU works at 1575MHz for the base and 1770MHz for the GPU Boost clock, so it is a significant boost in performance for a $100 price bump, compared to the RTX 3070.

Coming June 3rd and June 10th at $1,199 and $599

The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti will be available on June 3 starting at $1,199, with the RTX 3070 Ti available on June 10 starting at $599.

Price-wise, this is an interesting move from Nvidia, as the Geforce RTX 3080 Ti is just $300 cheaper than the RTX 3090 and $500 more expensive than the RTX 3080. Of course, this is the new flagship and it comes with a flagship price.

On the other hand, the RTX 3070 Ti is $100 cheaper than the RTX 3080 and $100 more expensive than the Geforce RTX 3070, so we expect it to be quite popular.

Hopefully, Nvidia will have plenty of stock at launch dates so some of these will end up in the hands of gamers, rather than scalpers and cryptominers, as while these come with cryptomining limiter it still can be done but could be unprofitable - rumored at around 65 MH/s at 227W for the RTX 3080 Ti.

Both GPUs will be available for purchase as custom boards from day one, with standard and factory-overclocked models coming from usual Nvidia AIC partners, including ASUS, Colorful, EVGA, Gainward, Galax, GIGABYTE, Inno3D, MSI, Palit, PNY, Zotac, and others.

Of course, we will wait for the official reviews to show up and give us a clearer picture of the actual performance of these two new Geforce RTX 30 series cards.
