Computex 07: Always read the fine print

Intel was showing a demo of its new G35 chipset and it was having it run Call of Duty 2 against the AMD 690G chipset and the GMA X3500 was beating the 690G by some 10-20 FPS depending on what was going on in the game.

This is great news for Intel, but it's always good to read the fine print, as the slide before the demo was performed showed the specifications of the two systems, although it was quite hard to make out the fine print due to a projector being used and the text being very small.

But the AMD system used an Athlon 64 X2 5200+, while the Intel system was running a Core 2 Duo E6600. Considering that the Core 2 Duo's are quite a bit faster than the Athlon X2's, this doesn't seem like quite a fair comparison.

However, neither integrated graphics solution could actually play the game at a playable frame rate, although we're not sure what resolution the game was played at, but the 690G topped out at around 10 FPS and stayed there, while the GMA X3500 never went over 30 FPS and averaged around 20 FPS.
