Computex 07:
Change the graphics core

We learned that DAAMIT won’t have too much trouble to update the graphics in Fusion. The way that chip is designed, it can take out the graphic part and update it and change with a new one.

This won’t happen that often as there is no need to do it, but you can expect a second generation Fusion with an updated graphic one to two years after the original one.

AMD did this black box design thing with Athlon integrated memory controller and it designed the chip so it can change the memory controller at later date, without messing too much with a completely chip redesign.

That is how it made Fusion, we just need to get to steady 45 nanometre for ATI and then the Fusion era can start, at late 2008 or early 2009.
