Return to the 1980s

VR could bring a return to the video arcades of the 1980s, according to analysts at Digitimes Research.

The bean-counters claim that suppliers in the PC supply chain are looking to the VR gaming market for future growth as digital gaming appears to have become one of the main applications of VR devices.

In its report, Digitimes Research claimed PC vendors believe that an arcade-type VR gaming business model could be realized.
The rationale is that operators could buy expensive VR arcade gaming machines to enable users to experience VR gaming at low charge rates and make a killing.

Digitimes Research noted that some exhibitors already showcased multiple mechanism platforms and VR gaming solutions for arcade machines during the Computex Taipei 2016 trade fair.

Nvidia has demonstrated its capability to support multiplayer VR gaming, which will accelerate VR gaming's move toward MMO (massively multiplayer Online) games from single player model, Digitimes Research added.
Desktop PCs will continue to serve as mainstream hardware devices for VR games in the next two years.

AMD's forthcoming RX480 GPUs targets the entry-level and mid-range VR gaming market, but the vendor may not have high performance GPUs to compete with Nvidia in the high-end segment, Digitimes Research added.
