Metaverse not so much

The company which invented the reality distortion field and the rounded rectangle does not believe in the metaverse, but sees the world moving towards VR.

Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook told Dutch media outfit Bright that AR through glasses or a smartphone - a transformational technology that will soon be as ubiquitous as a smartphone or the internet.

“I think AR is a profound technology that will affect everything. . . we are really going to look back and think about how we once lived without AR.”

This is different from VR or the metaverse being pushed by Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta Platforms. He thinks that VR would be a hard sell because the average person is clueless what it actually is.

VR, while more immersive, it limiting. “I don’t think you want to live your whole life that way,” Cook said. “VR is for regular periods, but not a way to communicate well.”

In the interview, Cook also said computer programming is the most important language students can learn today, and called climate change the world’s biggest challenge.
