And SATA Flash modules

It looks like the SSD battle is heating up, as Toshiba has just announced a new addition to its series of 2.5in SATA SSD drives with a 256GB MLC drive which goes under the model name of THNS256GE8BC.

The new drive offers read speeds of up to 120GB/s and write speeds of 70MB/s, which is a fair bit slower than what some other manufacturers have announced recently, but still far from being slow, especially at this capacity. Toshiba is already shipping samples and mass production will kick off in the next quarter.

Toshiba also announced three new low-cost SATA Flash modules, which includes the 8GB THNSA08G0P4L, the 16GB THNSA16G1P4L and the 32GB THNSA32G1P4L. These modules measure 50x30mm (DxW) and are set to target the netbook and low-cost PC market. They offer a read speed of 80MB/s and a write speed of 50MB/s, which is better than the current low-cost SSD solutions used in the Eee PC among other low cost solutions. The new SATA Flash modules are sampling now and will begin shipping in the next quarter.
