The Plextor M8Pe SSD will be based on a PCI-Express 3.0 x4 interface with new NVMe protocol and should provide 4k random read performance of up to 270,000 IOPS and 4k random write performance of up to 150,000 IOPS, according to a report from PCWorld.com. The new Plextor M8Pe PCIe SSD can be considered as the successor of the Plextor M6e, which was the first PCIe based SSD on the market or the earlier cancelled M7e SSD which was canned as it could not compete with the likes of Samsung 950 Pro M.2 M6e.

Unfortunately, Plextor was not ready to talk about more details, including the availability date or the price, but it did say that the M8Pe will have Plextor's exclusive features like the PlexTurbo RAM caching, PlexCompressor and PlexVault.

We will keep our eyes open for the Plextor M8Pe SSD at CES 2016 and we are sure that we will see a bunch of other PCIe-based NVMe SSDs at the show.
