14nm and USB 3.1
The new chipset that will accommodate the Intel 9th generation Core processors based on 14nm++ has brought two new features. Intel has introduced WiFi integration on the chipset level as well as USB 3.1 gen 2 support out of the box.
AMD placing USB 3.1 chipset orders as well
According to sources from motherboard makers, Intel is planning to add USB 3.1 and Wi-Fi functionality to its upcoming 300-series motherboard series scheduled to be released at the end of 2017.

On Wednesday, Seagate announced Innov8, the world’s first power adapter-less USB 3.1 Type-C external hard drive for desktops. The drive is available in an 8TB storage capacity and does not require any power cable to operate, using only a single USB Type-C connector as a source of both power and data.
Thick, braided cables can be very misleading
It appears that USB 3.1 Type-C cables can come in all colors, sizes, and varying degrees of quality control, as recently noted by Google engineer Benson Leung in his latest review that resulted in permanent damage to his Chromebook laptop.

MSI has now officially unveiled its new 990FX Gaming socket AM3+ motherboard, which is currently, at least as far as we know, the only socket AM3+ motherboard with USB 3.1 ports.

It feels frustrating that Apple comes out with so many great technologies and one of the last ones is the Lightning connector. You would expect that this technology would be fast, but Apple is using USB 2.0 speeds. However, it uses a reversible connector that can be plugged in from either side.

ADATA has been doing a good job in supplying DDR3 and DDR4 memory, making fancy USB 3.0 flash drives and SSDs. The company is now planning to introduce a refreshed line of storage products and some of them will feature the latest USB 3.1 high speed Type C connector.
