GSM channel troubles in Q4

The EE Times is reporting that an apparent shortage of LCD screens is causing headaches for mobile operators in the US.

An SG Cowen Securities Corp. report claims that the shortage was confirmed by several distributors and that US mobile operators are in a rush to secure sufficient quantities of screens for Q4.

The shortage seems to be significant, or as the report says "in the millions of units". The causes aren't clear at the moment. Some sources claim that the LCD suppliers are to blame, with T-Mobile USA being the worst affected.

Samsung seems to have sold out its lineup for the next couple of months. Ironically, thanks to Samsung's success Nokia and Motorola are expected to score higher unit sales than expected.
