The Boy Genius report has scored some exclusive pictures of an upcoming BlackBerry device from RIM that looks nothing like its current range of products and it currently goes under the code name of Kickstart.

The handset features a flip-phone design, well, we're using the term phone here, as the essence of what the device looks like reminds us of early generations of 3G handsets in terms of size. The Kickstart has one internal and one external display and it features a SureType keypad and a trackball similar to that found on the Pearl.

It also has an integrated camera with LED flash and a self portrait mirror. The only other things you can sort of see in the pictures are a headset jack and maybe an externally accessible memory slot and some side mounted volume keys.

It doesn't look very stylish, but we can only hope that this is an early prototype and not the final design. The biggest problem is that it doesn't seem to be that much smaller than the Pearl, which makes it fairly pointless, even if it might have a slightly bigger display. The device is meant to launch sometime this year, which gives RIM a seven month-time span to get this device out in the market.
