HTC Touch Diamond specs leaked

by on05 May 2008

Should launch this week

News mobile claims to have scored the goods on the upcoming HTC Touch Diamond, and considering the pictures they have of the claimed device, it's hard not to believe that this is the real deal. If it's indeed the case and they've gotten all the details correct, then it looks like HTC might have another winner on its hands.

First up, this is HTC's first VGA resolution device in a while and it's about time too, as 320x340 just doesn't cut it anymore in our opinion. The handset features a 2.8-in screen, and as with previous touch devices, it's flat with the surface of the device.

HTC seems to like Qualcomm and has stuck one of its MSM7201A CPUs clocked at 528MHz inside the Touch Diamond. There's no mention about how much RAM the device will have, but it appears that it'll have 4GB of built-in flash memory for storage.

Other highlights include WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and EDR, eGPS, FM tuner, a microSD card slot, HSDPA with speeds of up to 7.2Mbit, a 3.2Megapixel camera with auto focus and a front-mounted camera for video calls, and it might even have an orientation sensor or accelerometer.

The design seems to borrow quite heavily from Nokia's Prism series of handsets and some of the things we're not so keen on are the use of HTC's proprietary USB/headset combo port and the fact that there's no flash for the camera. This isn't going to be cheap device judging by the specs, so let's hope some of the networks pick these up with a nice subsidy.
